WORDS OF WISDOM ABOUT WISDOM TEETH
Studies have linked seemingly toothache-free wisdom teeth to gum disease causing premature labor in pregnant women. According to research, around 80% of people will have problems connected to their wisdom teeth. As such, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons strongly recommend pulling out wisdom teeth before they start causing problems; ideally, during the stages of adolescence or the early part of adulthood. It makes it easier to extract, and lowers the risks associated with wisdom tooth extraction. True enough, if untreated, an impacted wisdom tooth can cause a great deal of damage, leading to puss, and some times, cysts. In case of the later, the results can be serious, like an injury to the jawbone. This pain can even extend itself throughout the body, making it difficult for the person to concentrate, eat, and enjoy all sorts of things a normal person does. Leaving a problematic wisdom tooth alone can gravely affect a person’s quality of life.
General dental practitioners, on the other hand, tend to have a more conservative take on pre-emptive oral and maxillofacial Surgery, saying that if it is growing correctly and proves to be healthy, it is better to leave well enough alone.
Experts foresee an invention preventing the growth of wisdom teeth in the future to put an end to these kinds of painful tooth extractions. At the moment, there has been some success in this direction using animal subjects, making the possibility of preventing the growth of these redundant teeth possible.
